When Louisa May Alcott submitted her first draft of Little Women to Russ Meyer for consideration, he quickly saw it for the avant-garde hot mess it was. By turning it into a dark and dirty cheesy erasure (widely regarded by many as the lowest of the low in poetic forms) he still managed to keep its R rating. Obviously, the golden age of Can Lit was soon to be burned to the ground.
